  1. A glycolic acid peel will exfoliate dead skin cells and stimulate the synthesis of proteins like collagen that are critical to a healthy rate of new skin cell production. The results from the first month of weekly glycolic acid peels can be attributed to glycolic acid's exfoliating properties. Uneven texture and superficial discoloration from damaged skin cells will be removed, exposing healthy, new skin that will appear radiant and younger-looking in contrast to the layers of cellular debris that were affixed to the skin's surface before. As the body ages, cellular reproduction slows down, and in some cases, at a faster rate with skin cells. Continued use of glycolic acid will slow the onset of premature aging by helping to maintain a healthy rate of new skin generation. A robust collagen-elastin matrix, for example, will prevent the thinning, sagging, and wrinkling symptoms common to prematurely aging skin. The frequency of administration will depend on your treatment goals. To maintain consistent texture and clear skin, you need only apply a peel once per week for four weeks, and then once every 4 to 8 weeks thereafter to maintain your skin's appearance. To slow the onset of premature aging, apply a peel once per week for eight weeks, take a two to four week hiatus, and then recommence another 8-week cycle. The above application schedules are not strict and are provided only as a guideline. You may find that your skin responds better to a modified schedule. Feel free to experiment with different cycles until you find one that suits you best.

This type of acne is commonly referred to as a nodule. It can be treated like other forms of acne with actives such as sulfur and salicylic acid. Have you tried our Coral KAVI cleansing bar? Coupled with a mask such as Salicylic Acid 15, you have the foundations of a solid pore maintenance routine that can reduce both existing acne infections and the rate of new infection.
  4. While there aren't any specific brands of makeup that we endorse, there are a number of products out there that are pore-friendly for a greater majority of skin types. As a general rule, test any make-up product you are evaluating in isolation to determine its comedogenicity on your skin. If the makeup does not clog your pores while on your skin nor after you have attempted to remove it, the next test step would be to determine its effect when used in combination with any other products you have already placed on your "safe list" following successful completion of the two-step test process outlined above.
  5. The reactions you describe are not typical of a KAVI Salicylic Acid peel. Salicylic acid will exfoliate dead skin and penetrate clogged pores, clearing out cellular debris, acne bacteria, and sebum. Any variance in pigmentation may be a reaction to the strength of the peel and should be temporary, provided the peel was left on the target area for no longer than directed (60 to 90 seconds, 20 to 60 seconds on sensitive skin, 20 seconds on first use). Please monitor your skin for the next day and let us know if your skin does not fully recover. For any medical advice, please be sure to contact your dermatologist.
  6. If you have never had a glycolic acid peel before, it would be advisable to not begin with a strength greater than 30% for a facial mask. Skin on the body may be more resilient to irritation and, in some cases, a 40% strength may be acceptable for first-time use. KAVI Glycolic Acid 30 will provide more immediate results with texture (including fine lines), however it may take up to eight weekly applications to notice an improvement with uneven pigmentation (e.g., age spots, sun spots, etc.). Directions for use are included with every order and may also be found at http://www.kaviskin.com/help.php?section=FAQ#safecheck-AHA and http://www.kaviskin.com/help.php?section=FAQ#ga-proc. For accelerated results, you may wish to consider applying the Advanced Melanin Repair Serum daily in conjunction with weekly peels. The AMRS is designed specifically to inhibit the enzymes responsible for the production of melanin, the skin's natural pigment. Made with alpha arbutin, the AMRS is a much safer alternative to hydroquinone-based pigment correction.
  7. Thank you for your compliments on the forum. While we cannot provide any medical advice and must refer you to your physician for a diagnosis, it sounds from your description like you may have seborrheic dermatitis. Common symptoms are oily skin and flaking. We make several products that have been very successful in managing the symptoms of seborrheic dermatitis. To start, you may wish to begin with a subset of these products to gauge your skin’s response. We would recommend the following initial skin maintenance routine: Cleanse twice per day with Coral KAVI, a cleansing bar made with sulfur and salicylic acid. Exfoliate once per week with Salicylic Acid 8 or 15 to clear pores and minimize flaking of the skin throughout the week. The tiny bumps you write about could be milia (hardened comedones made from sebum and cellular debris). Milia are usually difficult to extract, however regular exfoliation with salicylic acid may help over time (but will certainly help reduce the rate of new milia formation). If you find that you need additional treatment, the KAVI Organic Sulfur Suspension may help, although excessive use may dry out the skin. If you do decide to also try the Organic Sulfur Suspension, we would recommend limiting its application initially to twice per week, monitoring your skin for dryness. Alternatively, KAVI Toner can be used in the evenings as a final-stage cleanser. It is made with salicylic acid and can help maintain clean pores between exfoliation sessions. It is far less drying than the Organic Sulfur Suspension and may be a suitable alternative for sensitive skin.
  8. We would recommend using an appropriate makeup remover first before cleansing with Coral KAVI.
  9. When building a balanced anti-acne skin care regimen, a primary consideration for any age group should be to avoid drying out the skin. Besides the facts that dry skin does not necessarily prevent new acne formation and can lead to a rash of new breakouts (e.g., whiteheads), exposure to the elements without the right hydration can accelerate the onset of premature aging. To treat acne on your skin, we would recommend starting out with the products in the Anti-Acne System III for Oily or Combination Skin: Coral KAVI - use as a replacement to your existing soap: your skin will benefit from no longer using alkaline cleansers and from Coral KAVI's anti-acne actives (sulfur and salicylic acid). Salicylic Acid 8 - a mild comedolytic mask to use once per week to break through clogged pores and neutralize acne infections within. Toner - use once per evening to maintain your pores between weekly peels. Hyaluronic Acid 95 - use once or twice daily to hydrate your skin. SPF 30 - use as needed to protect exfoliated skin from the harmful effects of UVA/UVB rays. It's important to note that concurrent use of any other anti-acne products may result in dry skin. We would recommend you follow the above regimen for two weeks, monitoring your skin regularly and making adjustments as needed. At the end of two weeks, you should have a clear idea whether the regimen is producing positive results or if any changes are required.
  10. We make several medicated cleansers that address the symptoms of rosacea and seborrheic dermatitis very well. Because use of mass-market soap products can often aggravate these skin conditions, our cleansers are intended to serve as a complete replacement to your current soap-based skin care products. The following is a list of our sulfur-based cleansers, in order from gentle to intensive: DermaWash (liquid; active ingredient: 1% colloidal sulfur) Aqua KAVI (solid; active ingredient: 1% colloidal sulfur) Coral KAVI (solid; active ingredients: 2% colloidal sulfur, 3% salicylic acid) DermaWash and Aqua KAVI can also be used to help control the symptoms of acne, eczema, psoriasis, and a variety of skin allergies. Coral KAVI is ideally-suited for oily, acne-prone skin as well as more acute cases of seborrheic dermatitis.
  11. Thank you for your feedback. We're happy to hear that you are satisfied with the results of our anti-aging system. Our products are based on years of experience with thousands of professional customers at medical offices and spas throughout the world. Welcome to the KAVI community and please feel free to ask us any questions as they arise.
  12. It can be ok, however be sure to spot test first if you haven't already, perhaps on a facial blemish, before applying to a larger region like the t-zone.
  13. Please see answers below.. 1. Will this peel help with my skin condition? Salicylic Acid 25 is a very strong peel intended for severe acne, however it can also be used for other intensive treatment goals related to problem skin and pores. For the skin conditions you mention, Salicylic Acid 25 will provide the following benefits: - reduced pore diameter for more consistent texture, - exfoliation of damaged surface layers of the epidermis, exposing newer skin with reduced spotting and scarring, - reduced oiliness immediately following the peel. 2. How often should I do them? I was only able to leave the solution on for 25 seconds. We recommend that you administer this peel only once per week (20 to 90 seconds per session). To control oily skin between peels, consider switching to Coral KAVI or Aqua KAVI for your daily cleanser. 3. After how many treatments will I start to see results? Reduced pore diameter, reduced oiliness, and improved skin texture should be apparent in the days following the first peel. Improved skin tone (including reduced spotting) may require four peels or more. 4. Is Glycolic Acid more suitable for my condition, if so, at what strength? For accelerated recovery from acne spotting and scarring, glycolic acid would be a better choice. To attain the benefits of both glycolic acid and salicylic acid, you can alternate weekly application of each peel, applying one on odd weeks and the other on even weeks. A glycolic acid peel comparable in strength to Salicylic Acid 25 would be Glycolic Acid 50.
  14. While we must defer you to your physician for any medical advice, we can tell you that, depending on your skin type, you may not experience any issues from concurrent use of the products in the KAVI Anti-Acne Systems and either hydroquinone or tazarotene, especially if you take a measured approach to using the topicals in your skin care regimen. For some, concurrent use of the products in the Anti-Acne Systems with hydroquinone may lead to dryness and, in more severe cases, temporary inflammation (including an increased occurrence of whiteheads). As for tazarotene, we would advise that you monitor your skin for any sensitivity and/or irritation that may arise from concurrent use. To reduce the chances of dryness or sensitivity, be sure to adequately moisturize your skin and avoid prolonged exposure to the sun. If you do detect dryness, sensitivity or inflammation, discontinue usage of KAVI products for 2 weeks and consider recommencing at less frequent application intervals.
  15. While it is not necessary to apply a toner before administering a peel, it is a good idea to ensure that the skin is adequately cleansed. Dirt, oil, and makeup can impede the penetration of glycolic acid and reduce overall efficacy.
  16. Yes, you can. In fact, alternating between weekly glycolic and salicylic peels is a popular way to attain the benefits of both without introducing excessive stress to your skin. For example, you can apply a salicylic acid peel on odd weeks, and a glycolic acid peel on even weeks. We do recommend a two to four week hiatus from weekly exfoliation every two months to allow your skin to fully recuperate from the last series of peels. During this time, KAVI glycolic acid based cleansers and moisturizing serums as well as our salicylic acid based cleansers may still be applied to maintain your skin and pores.
  17. Cherry angiomas are typically treated with laser, cryotherapy, or electrosurgery. Though any of these procedures require a visit to the doctor's office, they fortunately are all brief outpatient procedures. As for the scarring on the side of your face, Glycolic Acid 60 is the strongest exfoliation mask available from KAVI for over-the-counter use. We would advise you to consult with your physician about an unbuffered KAVI glycolic acid peel. Unbuffered peels have a lower pH, permitting deeper exfoliation. Such peels are strong enough to completely keratolyze the epidermis, providing your physician with enough flexibility to achieve successful results.
  18. Coupon codes are made available on newsletter mailings several times throughout the year as well as on our monthly customer surveys. If you place an order in a given month, you’ll receive a customer satisfaction survey the following month with a coupon code offered at the time of completion (our way of saying thanks for taking the time to tell us what you think).
  19. We’re very sorry to hear about your daughter’s skin condition, however we think we can help. As it appears her acne has progressed significantly over the past 3½ years, treatment may take 2 months or longer to show significant results. The following are a list of products to consider for treating your daughter’s acne: Coral KAVI – Cleanse once or twice per day. Use as a replacement to your existing cleanser. Do not use any other soap products on the skin. Organic Sulfur Suspension – Apply once per day or once every other day. This product is a very strong antiseborrheic (dries the skin) but is highly effective in reducing acne populations on the skin. Use with care and monitor the skin regularly for dryness. This product may leave a light white film on the skin, so it may be best to apply it after school and wash off any remaining residue in the evening before sleep. Salicylic Acid 8 or 15 – Apply once per week. Start with Salicylic Acid 8 and follow all instructions closely. Will eliminate acne bacteria on the surface of skin and will also clear clogged pores and help neutralize acne infections within. KAVI Laundry Cleanser – pH-neutral laundry cleanser. Detergents like Tide, All, and others are very alkaline and do not completely rinse off clothing. Alkalinity in clothes and bed sheets raises pH level of skin, reducing body’s own ability to keep acne bacterial growth low. We do make other products for acne, but the above should be sufficient for a preliminary anti-acne treatment plan. Monitor your daughter’s skin for dryness and reduce use of the above products (except for the laundry cleanser) if you observe flaking or tightness in the skin. Remember to hydrate with a non-comedogenic moisturizer (such as KAVI SPF30 or Hyaluronic Acid 95).
  20. Like all retinoids (tretinoin included), retinol is a vitamin A derivative, making it potentially unsafe for pregnant or nursing women. We would advise you to check with your physician if you are considering using Enhanced Retinol 0.30% and are pregnant or may become pregnant during the course of treatment.
  21. Concurrent use of Differin and Coral KAVI with or without weekly exfoliation with a KAVI Salicylic Acid mask can irritate the skin and result in excessive dryness and peeling. Please consult with your physician for additional information on Differin's contraindications, precautions, and warnings. While Coral KAVI and KAVI Salicylic Acid masks are very effective in the treatment of acne, coupling our skin care regimen with another will seldom yield compound benefits, but rather may result in inflammation, increased breakouts, dryness, and sensitivity. Typically, it would be best to move forward exclusively with the one regimen that you determine to be the most amenable to your skin type and treatment goals.

It might be better to take a two-step approach to solving your skin problems: (1) reduce the rate of new breakouts, and (2) accelerate recovery after an infection has subsided. To reduce new breakouts, there are several options available to you. Anti-acne cleansing bars such as Aqua KAVI or Coral KAVI are a practical choice for an active lifestyle. We also make a liquid-based anti-acne cleanser called DermaWash, which is milder on dry skin. If you would prefer to exfoliate your skin once per week with a comedolytic mask, we would recommend starting with a milder product, such as Salicylic Acid 8, which will open clogged pores, neutralize acne bacteria, and exfoliate dead skin cells. Through the exfoliation process, Salicylic Acid 8 will shed skin cells damaged from previous breakouts, leaving behind a layer of healthy, new skin. While Salicylic Acid 8 will likely be enough to give your skin more consistent tone and texture, you may also consider alternating weekly peels with Glycolic Acid 30, which in addition to exfoliation will accelerate regeneration of collagen and new skin tissue. As a start, the safest initial treatment plan would be to cleanse once or twice daily with Coral KAVI and optionally exfoliate once per week with Salicylic Acid 8 (be sure to follow all directions printed on the bottle). For dry or sensitive skin, consider Aqua KAVI or DermaWash instead of Coral KAVI.
  24. 1. A 2oz bottle has 60 cc’s of solution. Approximately 3 to 5cc’s are required for a full facial peel, equating to about 12 to 20 applications per bottle. A 4oz bottle would provide twice as many peels. 2. There are no contraindications to concurrent use of hydroquinone and glycolic acid, however we would encourage you to obtain your physician’s counsel to be certain that there will be no complications for your skin.
  25. Yes, once per week is suitable for most pore-related treatment goals. If you find that your pores are clogging between peels, you may wish to apply the KAVI Toner once per evening after cleansing to keep pores clear and of consistent diameter.
