  1. We would advise you to seek medical counsel from your physician regarding concurrent use of KAVI Glycolic Acid and Renova. Generally speaking, a measured approach would be to apply Glycolic Acid 40 once per week in isolation for a period of two weeks. If your skin responds well to the strength, reintroduce Renova into your routine by applying it once every other night. If all goes well, apply Renova nightly after two weeks of bi-daily application.
  2. If you do not have prior experience with salicylic acid peels, then Salicylic Acid 8 would be the strongest to consider for an introductory peel to treat large pores. If after 2 months your skin can tolerate Salicylic Acid 8 well with no persistent redness or irritation after the peel is removed, it would be safe to consider Salicylic Acid 15 if more intensive treatment is required. Remember to moisturize daily and protect your skin with an adequate sunblock whenever outdoors.
  3. A sterile cotton ball or sterile gauze (even better) would be a fine implement for transferring salicylic acid to the target area. You only need one to two layers of salicylic acid on the skin. The alcohol base will cool the skin and help reduce the intensity of the salicylic acid. Once the alcohol has evaporated, the target area will begin to heat up as salicylic acid (still on the epidermis) continues to keratolyze dead skin and dissolve comedones inside pores.
  4. The shelf life for any of our products is listed on each product’s page at www.kaviskin.com. Our peels have a shelf life of one year from the date of production, which is typically within 30 days of the date of sale. We manufacture our products in smaller quantities and use safer, less potent preservative systems to provide our customers with a healthier alternative. A typical full facial peel will require about 4cc’s of solution, which comes out to 15 peels for a 2oz bottle, 30 for a 4oz bottle, and 60 for an 8oz bottle.
  5. While not recommended as a primary form of treatment against mites or lice, our sulfur bars (Coral KAVI or Aqua KAVI) can serve as an effective complement to the primary form of treatment.

Determining which product or combination of products to use greatly depends on your treatment goals. The products you named are listed below with the indications for which they are best suited: Complex A - eye repair serum, best for dark circles, puffy skin, and cellular hydration around the eye region. Complex C - best for both the prevention and treatment of wrinkles (contains argireline, a muscle relaxant similar to BOTOX but completely non-toxic), and cellular hydration. Enhanced Retinol 0.30% - stronger than Complex C, best for the prevention of premature aging and maintaining healthy pores. Hyaluronic Acid 95 - high-impact cellular hydration serum, best for oily or combination skin. Glycolipidic Moisturizer - high-impact cellular hydration serum, best for normal or dry skin. Complex A can be used in combination with any of the above serums. Typically, Complex C and Enhanced Retinol 0.30% are not used together. While they are compatible, most will select one based on their skin sensitivity and specific needs. The hydrating serums may be used in combination with any of the above serums. They should be applied after the other serums have been given two to three minutes to absorb. For extremely dry skin, both serums can be used together. Be sure to apply Hyaluronic Acid 95 first and then the Glycolipidic Moisturizer two to three minutes later.
  7. Buffering is a process by which we are able to raise the pH of an acid, making it safer to use by non-professionals. A higher pH reduces the acidity of a solution.
  8. From your post, it is unclear if the product you are using is from KAVI. KAVI Salicylic Acid 8 is a mild peel and, if administered as directed, should not adversely impact your skin's complexion at the onset of treatment. The small bumps you describe may be a reaction to the use of too many antiseborrheics. If you are applying other anti-acne products to your skin while using a salicylic acid mask, it may be simply too much, especially if your skin tends to be naturally dry. The pore maintenance regimen we recommend for acne-prone skin is the following: (1) Cleanse once or twice per day with Coral KAVI (do not use any other cleansers on the target area), (2) Apply KAVI Toner once per evening as a final-stage cleanser to remove dirt, makeup, and other debris from pores, (3) Exfoliate once per week with KAVI Salicylic Acid 8, (4) Apply non-comedogenic moisturizers as needed (KAVI Hyaluronic Acid 95 or KAVI SPF30 are good examples). For more severe cases, it may be necessary to introduce a sulfur suspension or use a stronger salicylic acid mask, but the regimen above works very well for most skin types.
  9. If your skin has acclimated to Salicylic Acid 8 and there is no lingering redness or inflammation after the peel is removed, then stepping up to Salicylic Acid 15 should be ok. When first using Salicylic Acid 15, you may wish to perform an initial spot test and subsequently ensure that your first peel is not longer than 30 seconds. If your skin reacts well to the new strength, you can gradually increase the application time 15 seconds per week up to a maximum of 90 seconds.

    Product Usage

All the products you referenced below are suitable for sensitive skin. Enhanced Retinol 0.30% is the strongest product in your order, and you will want to monitor your skin for any dryness that may result from its use. If you do detect any dryness, reduce application to once every other day. The following is a recommended daily regimen: Cleanse once or twice per day with DermaWash. Apply Toner once per evening after cleansing with DermaWash and before application of any serums. Apply Complex A to the eye region twice per day (once morning, once evening) to treat wrinkles, puffiness, dark circles. Apply Enhanced Retinol 0.30% once per evening to treat wrinkles, uneven pigmentation, and clogged pores. Apply the Glycolipidic Moisturizer in the mornings after Complex A and in the evenings after Enhanced Retinol 0.30% (wait at least three minutes between application of serums). If you have any additional questions, please feel free to post a follow-up.
  11. Made with both sulfur and salicylic acid, the Coral KAVI cleansing bar is specifically designed to treat oily, acne-prone skin. It is safe for teens and can be used by both sexes. Because KAVI cleansing bars are intended as a replacement to existing bar soaps, they can easily be incorporated into skin care routines without the introduction of additional steps. For your niece and nephew, it would be advisable to begin with Coral KAVI and observe results for one month before considering any additional treatment such as sulfur masks or salicylic acid peels.
  12. Glycolic acid and salicylic acid masks in low-pH preparations (pH<3.0) provide unique benefits to the skin. While both provide keratolysis (exfoliation of dead skin cells, cellular debris, and damaged surface layers of the epidermis), much of the similarity ends there. Glycolic acid accelerates cellular regeneration and repair of the collagen-elastin matrix, slowing the onset of premature aging and restoring the skin's natural cell structure. Salicylic acid is highly effective in restoring damaged pores, neutralizing acne infections, cleaning out dirt and debris, and reducing pore diameter for more consistent texture across the surface of the skin. To obtain the benefits of both peels safely and with minimal irritation, it would be best to alternate application of each between weeks. In other words, you can choose to apply glycolic acid once on every odd week, and salicylic acid once on every even week. To maintain results between peels, you may consider our moisturizing Glycolic Serum (available in 15% and 30% strengths) and Toner (made with salicylic acid), both of which can be applied daily.
  13. Welcome to KAVI's online skin care community. We have recently migrated to a new software platform for the forums and are in the process of importing older posts from 2007 and earlier. All work should be completed by 3/1/08.

To log into the user forum, please be sure to sign up for an account first. Alternatively, you may post without registering. To lift age spots on the hands, you can continue to use Glycolic Acid 30 if it is working for your skin. Alternatively, to lift deeper spots, you may consider moving to a stronger concentration. GA40 is 33% stronger than GA30, and GA50 is 66% stronger. GA60 is twice as strong. Typically, if you require more intensive treatment and you are able to use a given strength for eight to ten sessions without any lingering irritation or inflammation after a peel is removed (e.g., no redness after two hours), it should be ok to consider the next graduated strength.

    Acne treatment

Yes, those would be the correct application intervals. For pore maintenance between peels, KAVI Toner can be used once per day (in the evenings) as a final-stage cleanser. Our Anti-Acne Systems III contain these products as well as a moisturizer and SPF, should you require them.

While our products do not pose any direct risks during pregnancy, we must defer you to your physician for medical counsel on whether products containing sulfur and salicylic acid are ok for you during your pregnancy. We typically recommend the use of Coral KAVI to treat acne before introducing the Organic Sulfur Suspension. Both are very effective, however concurrent use may dry out the skin. Weekly exfoliation with Salicylic Acid 8 will greatly assist Coral KAVI in reducing acne (including whiteheads), pore diameter, and blackheads. Concurrent use of Coral KAVI and Salicylic Acid 8 should not increase the risk of excessive dryness, as long as you are not using other antiseborrheics.
  17. We make two peels at a 40% strength: KAVI Glycolic Acid 40 (product page: http://www.kaviskin.com/products/glycolic-acid-40.html) KAVI Glycolic Acid 40 Unbuffered (product page: http://www.kaviskin.com/products/glycolic-...nbuffered.html) Both peels contain 40% glycolic acid in solution, however Glycolic Acid 40 has a pH of 2.1 and the unbuffered preparation has a pH of 1.0. GA40 Unbuffered cannot be completely removed with water and does require a neutralization agent (such as the KAVI PPN). We request and verify the state license number of the physician administering unbuffered glycolic acid peels at your spa before we can sell you any unbuffered glycolic peel. Our peels come in various strengths from 20% to 70% and are formulated for use by physicians and other skin care professionals. For a list of key differentiators, please review the following link: http://www.kaviskin.com/info/kaviadvantage.html. If you are interested in salicylic acid peels (for acne, clogged pores, ingrown hairs, etc.), we offer strengths from 8% to 35%. More information on KAVI Salicylic Acid may be found at http://www.kaviskin.com/info/salicylic-acid.html.
  18. Sulfur may not provide significant benefit in treating the symptoms of keratosis. Keratolytic agents such as salicylic acid or glycolic acid may be more effective, as they will exfoliate dead skin cells and reduce the tissue buildup commonly associated with keratosis. KAVI makes glycolic acid and salicylic acid masks of various strengths that may be applied on the skin to treat several forms of keratosis. For treating blackheads, you may wish to look into KAVI Toner (used once per day as a final-stage cleanser). If blackheads are still forming, you could add Coral KAVI to your pore maintenance routine. Coral KAVI is also very good for acne. For even stronger treatment, Enhanced Retinol 0.30% (applied once or twice per day) will work more intensively to clear pores of dirt, oil, and any cellular debris. The strongest treatment available from KAVI for reducing blackheads comprises a weekly salicylic acid mask used in conjunction with KAVI Toner (applied nightly) and/or Coral KAVI. A KAVI salicylic acid mask is also very effective against acne. As always, check with your physician for any medical advice, including use of KAVI products.
  19. For the treatment of both fine lines and uneven pigmentation, Glycolic Acid 30 would be the most intensive option for an introductory product. For sensitive skin, the following products may be more suitable: Complex C (for the treatment and prevention of wrinkles) Enhanced Retinol 0.30% (for both age spots and wrinkles, very good for pores as well) Glycolic Acid 20 (like GA30, but milder)
  20. For the treatment of both fine lines and uneven pigmentation, Glycolic Acid 30 would be the most intensive consideration for an introductory product. The following products may be more suitable for sensitive skin: Complex C (wrinkles only) Enhanced Retinol 0.30% Glycolic Acid 20
  21. KAVI cleansing bars have the unique advantage of being both effective and convenient. Intended for use as a replacement to traditional soaps, they do not introduce additional steps to a daily skin care regimen. Coral KAVI is made with both salicylic acid and sulfur; it would be the best cleansing bar to consider for oily, acne-prone skin. It is suitable for both male and female skin, face or body.
  22. While the KAVI Toner is more effective against blackheads than the Organic Sulfur Suspension, the latter is more effective against acne. To treat both acne and blackheads with one product, look into a weekly salicylic acid mask, such as KAVI Salicylic Acid 8.
  23. Use of either shouldn't make a difference, however a clean cotton towel will probably feel better on your skin. Paper towels are made with pigments, glue, and other materials that, while not large enough to get into pores, may not be what you want to expose to your face on a daily basis.
  24. Ethanol is typically used in skin care products for two reasons. Not only can it be an efficient solvent for a product's active ingredients, but it is also a non-comedogenic antibacterial that aids in pore maintenance. Sulfur, salicylic acid, and benzoyl peroxide are all very effective in the treatment of acne, and all three are used in KAVI's anti-acne product line. Because different skin types may not react to a particular active equally, you have to evaluate different products to determine which is best for you. Pharmaceutical-grade colloidal sulfur may not be used as frequently in anti-acne products because of its higher cost, and lower-cost precipitated sulfur may not be used because of its odor. However, sulfur's positive impact over more popular actives on many skin types continues to be the primary driver for its use in KAVI products.
  25. While it is not necessary to apply a toner before administering a peel, it is a good idea to ensure that the target area has been properly cleansed. Dirt, oil, or makeup can impede the penetration of glycolic acid and reduce the overall efficacy of the peel.
