KAVI Glycolic Acid is formulated to allow dead skin to slough off in small, snowflake-sized pieces for a period of up to 72 hours after application. The secret to this process lies in how we buffer our glycolic acid. Our goal has been to design an exfoliation mask which is effective and safe for use at home. A dermatologist may opt to use a completely non-buffered formulation of KAVI Glycolic Acid where skin will peel in sheaths. This peel will offer more immediate results and is recommended for severe scarring, but because of the complexity of treatment can be administered only by a physician. KAVI Support Posted January 5, 2006 Report Share Posted January 5, 2006 If your dermatologist uses a non-buffered glycolic acid preparation, then they will certainly need to use a neutralizer. Off-the-shelf KAVI Glycolic Acid is buffered to a pH of 2.1, allowing it to be easily rinsed off with water. We do prepare non-buffered solutions for dermatologists but these preps are not directly available on our website.
