Hi I am an esthetician interested in your 15% salicyclic BHA mask.. My question is ......Is this BHA peel self neutralizing? In other words, does the heat and burning subside within a few minutes? Then you would proceed to wash it off? There should be no need to neutralize it? thank you, Carmen

Our BHA peels can be rinsed off with cold water alone and without a neutralizer. However, because the contact intensity of salicylic acid is high, there will be a burning sensation for a few minutes after the mask is removed. After rinsing, a cold water compress will help keep the skin calm.

but is it absolutely necessary to wash the peel off with cold water? or would it be more effective to leave it on for the required time and then apply a moisturizer to help neutralize it?

KAVI Salicylic Acid 15 is prepared at a pH of 2.35. This pH is too low to remain on the skin indefinitely. Most moisturizers are not sufficiently alkaline to raise the pH of the mask to 5.5 (the skin's natural pH). Extended exposure to a 2.35 pH mask will result in burns.

While our over-the-counter masks do not require neutralization and can be completely removed with a water rinse, we do prepare more intensive, <1 pH masks for medical professionals who request them. These preparations do require an alkaline solution like sodium carbonate to be safely removed. Please note that a sodium carbonate solution needs to be prepared correctly to ensure it is not too weak nor too strong.
