  1. The primary function of a scrub is to exfoliate layers of cellular debris that leave skin with rough, uneven texture. Scrubs achieve this using micro-crystals as an ingredient. The quartz micro-crystals we use are manufactured to the optimal size and texture for facial applications. While we cannot comment on the products of other companies, we can tell you that the crystals we use are at the higher end of the spectrum of alternatives available to us and other manufacturers. Additionally, our supporting ingredients (green tea, pomegranate, hops, and horsetail plant extracts, macadamia glycerides, vitamins, A, C, and E) provide significant benefits and value to the Detoxifying Cleansing Scrub that many other scrubs do not offer.

Also keep in mind that for most skin types, a scrub does not need to be applied daily in perpetuity. After an initial period of daily application over two weeks, you may find that it need only be used once or twice per week thereafter. If combined with exfoliation masks, its use may be required even less. One popular combination therapy comprises application of the scrub twice per week for weeks 1, 2 and 3, followed by one application in the first half of week 4 and one peel in the second half of week 4. This cycle may be repeated indefinitely and can incorporate a one-week hiatus between cycles if desired.

  2. Whenever possible, it is always a good idea to consult with your physician when considering any comprehensive skin care program. There are physicians near the 48825 area who are familiar with KAVI products and employ them for various procedures, but we do not have any agreements with them that would permit us to disclose their names.

It would be fine for your daughter to visit her own physician and reference KAVI products as a candidate for replacing her current Obagi regimen. Our own recommendation, given the information you have provided, would be for her to look into making one or two selections from a set of our mildest anti-acne products:

DermaWash – made with 1% colloidal sulfur, our most gentle anti-acne cleanser, pH-balancing, OR

Aqua KAVI – made with 1% colloidal sulfur, palm oil base, pH-balancing, OR

Coral KAVI – made with 2% colloidal sulfur and 3% salicylic acid, palm oil base, pH-balancing

    AND/OR

Toner – made with 0.2% salicylic acid and 0.5% resorcinol, gentle yet effective for maintaining clear pores

  3. Though not an answer you may like to hear, our guess would be that a "peaches and cream" complexion without makeup or treatment may likely be attributed to genetics. KAVI, however, helps level the playing field with its line of natural skin care products.

  4. We are delighted to hear that you are happy with our products and service.

Regarding your question, no there isn’t such a thing as eliminating pores, and even if there were, it wouldn’t be a good idea. Pores are used by the body to regulate temperature (through sweating), lubricate skin, and excrete unwanted toxins and waste from the body. In a nutshell, pores are an integral part of the human anatomy.

As you’ve seen though, it is possible to use KAVI products to keep pores clean and healthy, as well as give them consistency in appearance.

  5. We can recommend a number of products that can help with the types of pore problems you describe. Please let us know if the salicylic acid you have used in the past has been of similar or greater concentration than those offered by KAVI..

    For cystic acne or similar:

Coral KAVI (replace your current cleanser with this bar and use once or twice daily).

optional Organic Sulfur Suspension once per day on target area (avoid overuse as this product will tend to dry the skin)

    For whiteheads:

Coral KAVI (same as above, replace your current cleanser with this bar and use once or twice daily).

    For blackheads:

KAVI Toner (use once per evening as a final-stage pore cleanser)

optional Salicylic Acid 8 (apply mask to target area once per week to clear stubborn comedones from pores)

To avoid any dryness, please remember to moisturize daily with a non-comedogenic moisturizer. KAVI offers three choices: SPF30 (for normal skin), Hyaluronic Acid 95 (for normal to oily skin), and the Glycolipidic Moisturizer (for dry skin).

  6. Aqua KAVI contains half as much sulfur as Coral KAVI and no salicylic acid: it will be less effective than Coral KAVI for some, but just enough for others. The way to determine what's best for your skin is to evaluate each and observe your skin's response.

Tea tree oil and aloe vera should not conflict with either Coral KAVI or Aqua KAVI, and if they do not clog your pores, should work well in conjunction with either cleansing bar over the long term.

  7. Yes, and if that is too drying as well, then Aqua KAVI for both morning and evening. If you are using any other anti-acne medications, however, it would be best first to abate their use. For any prescription anti-acne medications, please consult your dermatologist first.

  8. Once per week. If you are satisfied with our products and wish to try our line of anti-acne solutions, please have a look at the products contained in the KAVI Anti-Acne Systems.. they are very effective against combating new acne breakouts.

  9. The benefits of a retail glycolic acid peel are seldom apparent after only a few minutes following peel removal. Glycolic acid peels can provide two benefits to the skin: keratolysis (exfoliation) of damaged surface layers of skin, and production of vital cellular components such as collagen to counter the slowdown of new skin cell generation resulting from premature aging.

Keratolysis is made possible from glycolic acid’s pH. Retail preparations are buffered to a pH of 2.1 to ensure safe and effective application for the greater majority of skin types. For reference points, please note that the pH of water is 7.0 and the natural pH of skin is 5.5.

While we do make glycolic acid preparations with lower pH’s, they are only available to physicians due to the complex nature of their administration and the pre-peel and post-peel requirements of such procedures.

It sounds like from the results of your spot tests, you did not observe an adverse reaction to either of the peels. As a next step, you may wish to proceed with a larger target area, leaving the peel on the skin for a longer period of time (we would recommend 4 to 5 minutes initially, moving up to 12 minutes with subsequent peels). Results will not be immediate, however several days following the first peel, you should observe improvements in skin texture: your skin should appear smoother and more consistent in texture. After about 8 weekly peels, you should next begin to observe consistency with your skin tone: age spots will begin to fade, yielding a brighter, more even tone to complement the smoother texture.

  10. Because anti-acne products are anti-seborrheic (drying) by design, they would best be used in moderation when considering a treatment plan that also incorporates a set of anti-aging goals. Coral KAVI is a cleansing bar that is very effective against acne and will not dry out skin that tends to be naturally oily.

For wrinkles and enlarged pores, a daily maintenance serum, such as the Glycolic Serum 15, coupled with a weekly peel (Glycolic Acid 30 or 40), can yield effective results and be combined safely with Coral KAVI.

During the course of the first month, monitor your skin for any dryness or irritation. Based on your observations, you may wish to continue your selected regimen with the above products, decrease frequency of use, or modify product strengths for the subsequent treatment cycle.

  11. If you have not experienced any redness or inflammation from use of Salicylic Acid 8, then you may safely proceed to Salicylic Acid 15. Please be sure to follow all preliminary instructions again, from spot testing to leaving the initial full facial peel of SA15 on for no longer than 20 seconds.

You may wish to purchase Salicylic Acid 15 while you still have some Salicylic Acid 8 left. In the event that SA15 is too strong, you may mix equal parts SA8 and SA15 to obtain an approximate 11% concentration as an intermediary strength to use to help your skin acclimate to stronger concentrations.

  12. It would be difficult to tell if the product combination above would be too much, since we do not see percentages to the active ingredients in the 10.0.6 product. The actives they do use, however, are not particularly harsh or antiseborrheic, so chances are that your skin will not dry out too much from combined daily use (with Benzaclin used occasionally as a spot treatment). Since your regimen includes prescription products, we advise you consult with your physician to ensure there are no medical concerns with your proposed regimen.

  13. It would be best to wait 8 to 12 weeks following your last TCA peel before commencing with a cycle of glycolic acid peels. Until then, the Anti-Aging System II for Oily or Combination Skin can help treat and maintain your skin against the onset of premature aging. The system includes the following components (see http://www.kaviskin.com/products/anti-agin...ion-skin.html):

    Cleanser: Pearl KAVI

    Treatment Serum: Enhanced Retinol 0.30%

    Maintenance Serum: Glycolic Serum 15

    Moisturizing Serum: Hyaluronic Acid 95

Instructions for System II may be found at http://www.kaviskin.com/info/prdproc.html#ARS2OC.

  14. Discoloration resulting from the use of Glycolic Acid 30 (System IV) is temporary and may be a sign of irritation. You may wish to reduce the application time of future peels as well as minimize exposure to regions that prove uniquely sensitive on your skin.

Bigger differences do take time. Remember that it can take months or even years for the symptoms of premature aging to surface, and reversing them is not an overnight process.

Instructions for the optimal use of the KAVI Anti-Aging System IV for Normal or Dry Skin may be found at http://www.kaviskin.com/info/prdproc.html#ARS4ND, and instructions for the KAVI Anti-Aging System IV for Oily or Combination Skin may be found at http://www.kaviskin.com/info/prdproc.html#ARS4OC.

  15. Thank you for your reply. How long did you leave the peel on for? If for four minutes or under, we would advise waiting two weeks before your next peel, to recommence at bi-weekly intervals, the application time for which should not exceed 4 minutes. If for four minutes or longer, we would advise waiting two weeks before your next peel, to recommence at weekly intervals, the application time for which should not exceed 4 minutes.

  16. Glycolic Acid 30 should not dry out the skin, but should only be used once per week. Tiny bumps are an indication that the peel is being used too frequently or being left on the skin for too long. Would you please advise on how you have been using the peel?

  17. Age spots form at the base layer of the epidermis, and by the time they are visible, they will be present on every layer beneath. Melanin imbalances often can self-correct over time, in which case treatment with glycolic acid can lift affected layers over a 10 to 12 week cycle. In cases where imbalances persist and continue to create uneven pigment, adjunctive therapy may be required. The Advanced Melanin Repair Serum contains alpha arbutin, an active ingredient that helps balance melanin distribution before pigment can form. To read more, please click here: http://www.kaviskin.com/info/a-arbutin.html.

  18. When Coral KAVI alone isn't enough to reduce the rate of acne infection, you may need to complement it with a stronger form of treatment. A salicylic acid peel may be the best next step for you. For facial application, look into Salicylic Acid 8, and for the body, Salicylic Acid 15. Peels should be applied only once per week, however you may wish to spot treat stubborn acne lesions once or twice between weekly peels to accelerate the treatment process.

  19. We're very happy to hear you've found a set of KAVI products that are making such a difference for your skin. If the rate of sebum production has actually decreased, it may be because your previous cleanser was triggering your body to produce more oil. A likely reason for the trigger could be a pH imbalance or some other unfavorable condition set off by the previous cleanser. With the right cleanser, your body may no longer be reacting in ways it thinks will counter a perceived attack.

KAVI Salicylic Acid 8 is a milder peel, and you should expect peeling to occur at a slow but sustained rate over a period of about three days. Unless Salicylic Acid 8 is too strong for your skin, peeling should be similar to a very light sunburn. To be safe, apply the peel on the evening of your first "weekend" night (Monday night in your case) and monitor your skin on Tuesday and Wednesday. If you are ok with the rate of peeling, you can adjust your peel schedule to another day in the week to better suit your schedule.

Moisturizers and toners are like every other skin care product: what may be right for some may not be right for you. Trial and error would be the best approach. The KAVI Toner and KAVI SPF30, however, are very popular and effective products. The former is very good for pores and oily skin, and unlike other moisturizers, the latter will not clog pores or leave you feeling greasy.

  20. For acne, you may wish to incorporate Coral KAVI, our sulfur-based cleansing bar, as an adjunct to treatment with Salicylic Acid 8. When used as directed, Coral KAVI can help control acne breakouts and excess oil. For the eye region, Complex A can help reverse the effects of oxidation that lead to dark circles. Complex A can also help with puffiness, fine lines, and can help reduce the onset of premature aging around the eyes. We would advise you seek the advice of your dermatologist to determine the root cause of the redness you describe.

  21. For facial skin that tends to be dry, we would recommend Aqua KAVI. For use on the body, Aqua KAVI can be sufficient, however you may find that Coral KAVI will yield faster and more thorough results. If you have been using other anti-acne products recently and are considering a switch to KAVI products, be sure to take a one to two week hiatus before commencing with KAVI to avoid overwhelming your skin.

  22. If the Salvax solution is showing little results, you may want to consider spot treating affected pores with a stronger solution. KAVI salicylic acid products come in 8%, 15%, 25%, and 35% concentrations. We would advise either the 8% or the 15% concentration as the next step.

Be sure to apply the solution to clean, dry skin. Because you are using the product as a spot treatment, restrict application to affected pores only (extending application to surrounding skin can increase the possibility of irritation). Using a pointed cotton swab or similar applicator can help provide adequate precision.

  23. To help control acne breakouts, we would advise introducing either Aqua KAVI (for normal or dry skin) or Coral KAVI (for oily or combination skin) into your daily cleansing regimen. Either cleansing bar should be used as a replacement to your existing cleanser. Depending on your progress over a two-week period, you may elect to introduce additional products, such as a KAVI salicylic acid mask (applied once per week) or the KAVI Toner (to be used once per evening as a final-stage cleanser).

Any deep (>1mm from the skin's surface) wrinkles, creases, or scars may see only marginal improvement from the use of over-the-counter topicals. To treat these conditions, we would advise you consult with your dermatologist about the administration of KAVI's stronger glycolic acid peels. These peels are available only to health care professionals and can yield sufficient keratolysis to provide you with the results you seek.

For wrinkles, creases, or scars <1mm deep, KAVI's retail line of glycolic acid peels, coupled with our maintenance and hydration serums, can help reduce the symptoms associated with premature aging and restore your skin's natural beauty in the comfort of your own home.

  24. First off, we should say that Botox, Restylane, and KAVI Glycolic Acid are very different products. Botox and Restylane are primarily wrinkle prevention treatments (the first uses a toxin to help prevent facial muscle movement from forming lines and the second uses hyaluronic acid to help restore cellular hydration). KAVI Glycolic Acid masks help with both wrinkle prevention and treatment by accelerating collagen production and exfoliating damaged surface layers to expose the healthy, wrinkle-free skin underneath.

Because no professionally-administered injections or toxins are required, KAVI Glycolic Acid masks are typically safer and less expensive. Their efficacy when compared to Botox or Restylane, however, entirely depends on the individual’s skin. In general, a complete skin care regimen from KAVI (e.g., daily wash with Glycolic Cleanser 10, weekly exfoliation with Glycolic Acid 30 or 40, moisturization with Glycolic Serum 15 or 30 (includes hyaluronic acid) and/or Hyaluronic Acid 95) will yield more consistent and satisfying results over the longer term.

Our Anti-Aging Systems bundle the above products for a significant cost savings over purchasing them individually.
